Tomlison House in Marbledale

A postcard in the collection of the Gunn Historical Museum in the town of Washington depicts the house at 250 New Milford Turnpike in the village of Marbledale in Washington, describing it as the Tomlinson Home. A real estate site gives a construction date for the house of 1860. Presumably this house is associated with the family of Philo Tomlison, who conducted marble quarrying in Marbledale in the early nineteenth century.

Former Marbledale Inn

Another postcard in the museum’s collection depicts the Marbledale Inn at 254 New Milford Turnpike. As shown in the image above, the building has since lost its original cupola and wraparound porch. It seems to be an apartment building today.

A real estate site gives the date of the building at 246 New Milford Turnpike as 1840. An old postcard at the Gunn Historical Museum shows that it was once the Marbledale Store and Post office and sold Socony Gas. Another postcard (below) shows the building when it was Miller’s store and sold Mobile Gas.
