In 1909, a massive fire destroyed the original Shannon Building in downtown Norwich. It was a large commercial and apartment building, built in 1892 by a local Irish businessman and real estate developer named James B. “Big Jim” Shannon. It was rebuilt the following year as a fireproof structure. In 1988-1989, the Shannon Building was restored by the Norwich Savings Society, the owners of the building.

    Greetings,
I just came across a business card, indicating that my father was part of a small company, called Triangle Engineering Co., which was located in the Shannon Building in Norwich, CT. His name was Paul Frank Paddock. I believe he may have had a couple of partners.

I don’t know how long they were tenants, but I believe they would have been there at some point between 1938-1944.

I remember my dad mentioning something about this venture when I was a small child, but never got any details. I am wondering if there are any rental records indicating who the tenants were, and what they were involved with. My recollection is that it was something to do with supporting the war effort during World War ll.

I know this is a long shot, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to inquire.

    Thank you.

“Norwich a College Town?” A major school like the University of Connecticut could establish a satellite campus in the Norwich downtown district. This plan would encourage high tech and other companies to move to Norwich. Think about it.
