Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Waterbury was established in 1885. The church on Wolcott Street, designed by the famous church architect Patrick C. Keely, was begun in 1885 and dedicated in 1889. Sacred Heart High School, the first Catholic High School in Connecticut, began in 1922 as a school for girls and became coeducational in 1938.

My mother attended Sacred Heart School. My grandmother lived next door and was a sacristan
taking care of the alter linens etc. So sad to see its current deterioration on my recent visit.

I am wondering also what happened to the building that was the convent where the nuns lived when they taught at Sacred Heart School ?

I attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School I graduated in 1964. I really would like to know if there is anyone living in the convent today. Where did all the SIsters go to live?
