3237 Bronson Road

At 3237 Bronson Road in the Greenfield Hill section of Fairfield is a Colonial Revival house built in 1882. It was once the home of Isaac Milbank, a gunsmith, who had his brick workshop behind the house. Later purchased by the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church for use as a school, the house has been much altered and an addition was built in 2012.

Technically, this is not Isaac Milbank’s house. He resided in the house on this property prior to the current house during the 1850’s and 1860’s. Of note, his son Isaac was born in the original house, and would become one the richest men in the world. Also of note, the last slave in Connecticut was also born in the previous house. Nancy Tooney was born in 1774, and died in 1857. While slavery was abolished in 1848, Nancy chose not to be free.
