The Huntington House, located along Windsor’s Broad Street Green, was built in 1901 and was lived in by members of the Huntington family until 1998. It is a Neo-Classical Revival and Colonial Revival style house, modeled on a Newport mansion. In 2001, the house was restored and opened to the public as the Huntington House Museum, but closed in 2005 due to a lack of community support. It now serves as offices.
The Huntington House (1901)
I believe Clark Huntington lived in the house until his death in the late 1980s/early 1990s?
Please correct the title, it is Huntington. The date of occupation is also incorrect. Clarke C. Huntington lived in the house until July 5,1998 when he died at age 93 after falling down the stairs.
His younger brother Walter was murdered in 1929 in a crime that was never solved.
I fixed the typo in the title and changed the date 1908 to 1998.
I went to birthday parties in that house in the 1950’s, presided over by Clark, the formidable uncle of the birthday girl, and an imposing grandmother, whose name I don’t recall. The parties were so elaborate and formal and made such an impression on an eight year old girl who dreamed of castles and princesses. It was a magical place. Years later Clark gave me and my husband a tour of the house and dazzled us with its collections of art and china and his knowledge and love of the house. Most of all he impresed us with his own truly likeable personality. He was not formidable at all.
Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum
it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any helpful hints for novice blog writers?
I’d definitely appreciate it.
