Around 1745, Edward Curtis began to build a house at what is now the southeast corner of Elm and Broad Streets in Stratford. It was completed by his nephew, Henry Curtis and remained in the Curtis family until 1981. The house has a tilt, believed to have been caused by two earthquakes, in 1747 and 1813.

Broad & Elm St. were part of old Post Rd. through Stratford, which is not modern Rt. 1. So, this area of historic homes alongside Green survives intact.
I live in an a late 18th c. saltbox further down Broad and have always thought true reason front wall kicks out is because front sill has rotted away. At my house, when we excavated front foundation, only fragments of sill survived.
