The Timothy Skinner House, built around 1785-87, is located next to the First Congregational Church in Litchfield. Skinner was a Brigadier General of the militia and served as constable, treasurer and selectman in Litchfield. The house was later owned for many years by Seth Beers. In 1948-49, the house was restored to a Colonial appearance and was moved back from the street to line up better with the church, which has owned the house and used it as a parsonage since 1943.
The Cyrus Winchell House, built around 1885, is a Queen Anne home in the Stick Style. Located on Ellington Avenue in Rockville in Vernon, this house (and another adjacent house) were built by Cyrus Winchell, a manufacturer and state senator who originally rented the homes and later sold them to two local businessmen.
Built around 1756, or earlier, the Captain Nicholson House in Glastonbury was moved from Hubbard Street to Main Street in 1970. It was built by the sea captain, Ambrose Nicholson, the year he married Margaret Hills, or perhaps around 1740 by his father, Henry Nicholson. The house was restored in 2001.
The Hubbard House is the oldest home around Hubbard Green in Glastonbury. It was built in 1720 by John Hubbard, Jr. His wife was Mary Wright Elson Hubbard.
The David Hills House in Wethersfield was built in 1822 and is transitional between the Federal and Greek Revival styles. The house, located on Main Street, was built as a gift for the 1822 wedding of Amelia Talcott and Maj. David Hills. Interestingly, Hills’ second wife was also named Amelia Talcott.

The Bull Homestead, in Woodbury, was built by Deacon Samuel Bull, a blacksmith who came to the town from Farmington. He adopted Thomas Bull, the son of his brother.
The Italianate style house of James Niles, on Charter Oak Place in Hartford, was built in 1869. It was later owned by the Ketridge and Hillard families. If you want to learn more about Italianate and Gothic Revival houses, please read my latest article!
