John McKinstry House

Rev. John McKinstry (1677-1754) was the first minister of Ellington’s Congregational Church. His house, most likely the oldest in Ellington, was built in 1730 and was moved to its present address at 85 Maple Street in 1815 from north of where the Hall Memorial Library was later built.

John McKinstry is my ancestor. It’s so great to see that his house is still around!

    Zachary,
THis is an interesting story. I have an original musket that was made for Alexander McKinstry, so your relative! It is dated 1757. I have taken a photo of this home and also have photographed the gun next to Alex’s grave in the Ellington cemetary. I continue to look for more info on Alexander..the gun is engraved with his name as Sgt. Alex McKinstry.
If you have any further info, I would appreciate hearing from you.
    Thank you,
    Edwin Parry (live in Ct)
