The house at 640 Clinton Avenue in Bridgeport displays an English-style approach to a American Foursquare form. The stuccoed house was built in 1919 for Israel J. Cohn, a lawyer.

IJ Cohn was my great uncle. This was a duplex, one residence upstairs at the Clinton Avenue address, the other around the corner at 240 Hazelwood. My family rented the downstairs from IJ in about 1959-60, 3 bedrooms plus the sun porch visble behind the center bush. That sun porch was my high school bedroom.

Hi Clifford. Israel J. Cohn was my grandmother’s first cousin. You and I are third cousins.

IJ was my great uncle. His sister Kate was my Paternal grandmother. There were other relatives around the corner, the Haflichs but I don’t have the tree with everyone on it so can’t speak to that relationship. We did not see IJ much, I think we were, so to speak, in different circles but the house was great. We moved in between my 5th and 6th grade and my parents bought a house in Fairfield, moved out while I was in my first year at UConn, early 1967.
