In 1889, Daniel Bryan acquired the lot at 54 Wells Avenue and soon after erected the house that still stands there. Its gables are shingled and have decorated bargeboards and there is a distinctive circular corner porch. Bryan was a farmer, a janitor at East Hartford’s Wells Hall and the High School, and by 1900 was Superintendent of Center Cemetery. He was possibly the Daniel L. Bryan, whose years were 1855-1921.

This is most certainly the same Daniel L Bryan you referenced, born 5 Jul 1855 and died 20 Oct 1921. Married to Ida E Ridley, born 8 Sep 1856 and died 6 Feb 1946. They had four children, Kitty, Percy G, Charles Stanley and George. He may not have been the builder of the home, unless other family was living there after it’s construction, but he certainly lived there when the 1920 census was taken. Prior years showed him living with his family down the street, at 18 Wells Ave.
