The house at 460 Old Main Street in Rocky Hill was built in about 1760 for Captain Charles Bulkeley, a merchant. The Greek Revival doorway probably dates to around 1840. The house was later owned by the Goodrich family. At some point, Frank Lovejoy, a shoemaker, came from New York to live with the Goodrich family.
Bulkeley-Goodrich House (1760)
I have been researching my family history and was surprised to run across this picture of a house that one of my relatives owned.
I would like to know if it was Andrew or his father Henry Goodrich that owned it. I have been informed that Andrew and Mrs. Chester Williams owned and operated the Rocky Hill Ferry. On 12 Jan 1813 purchased land lying along the Ct. river in Rocky Hill near the Ferry. The property included an old store or house which he moved into. The purchase price at the time was $120.00.
