In 1846, Amos Gridley built a brick store (22 Deforest Street) next to the Congregational Church in Watertown. Gridley also built his Italianate house next door. He was accused of dubious business practices and eventually went bankrupt. Unusually for a store, the building has a colonnaded Greek portico. It was later used as a town hall and firehouse and is home to the Watertown Historical Society.

I am wondering if the Amos Gridley who built the store is my ancestor. Our Amos gridley married Harriet Barber in 1840 in Canton in 1840. They had two daughters, Lucille and Catherine. Catherine, my grandmother, married Levi Howard. Our Amos and Harriet eventually moved to Alvin, Texas with the Howards where they are buried. I have not been able to find info to confirm or reject that Amos as my ancestor. Is there any way or place I can determine it? Helen
