The building of the Second National Bank of New Haven, founded in 1855, was built at 129-31 Church Street in 1912-1913. It was the bank‘s fourth home, the Post Office and courthouse building next door having replaced its previous one on Church Street. The new building was designed by Starrett & Van Vleck of New York.

I am reading family history for DAR records and see
my ancestors were the first student and faculty at Yale College for hundreds of years. In addition, it appears Samuel, Wylls and numerous Hemingways
were officers of the Second National Bank.
If you have any information to share it would be appreciated. I will be visiting New Haven in a few months. Eugenia

My grandfather, Louis Lee Hemingway, was president of the Second National Bank of New Haven when I was growing up in North Haven CT in the 1950s and 1960s. His daugther, Kate Stevens Hemingway, was my mother.

My ancestor, William McKenzie, who came to the United States from Scotland in 1833, died in Wallingford, CT. on May 8, 1872. He left to his wife in his will, signed in Wallingford on April 22, 1872, 44 shares of Second National Bank of New Haven stock. I don’t know what the stock was worth back then.

I have a bond from 1968 for the Westbrook Lodge No. 1784 in Westbrook, CT, countersigned by The Second National Bank of New Haven and am wondering where I can cash it in. Thank you.
