Owned for more than 200 years by the Butler family, which came to Wethersfield via Hartford in the 1680s, the Roger Butler House, on Jordan Lane in Wethersfield, was built in 1769, although it may date to the 1750s or earlier. The house once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

I have been doing considerable research on the individual Af-Am experience in 17th & 18th century Wethersfield.
Could you please please send me more information re. the Butlers & documentation this house as an Underground Railroad stop.
Also was this house ever owned by Francis or Levi Butler, probably in the late 18th century.

I understand when George Washington was in town in the 1700’s he visited several homes was the Roger Butler home one of them?

George Washington stayed at the Joseph Webb house when he met with Rochambeau to plot various strategies before the Battle at Yorktown.
The home on Main Street in Wethersfield is now a museum. Check out the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum.
