Capitol Theater, New London

The Capitol Theater in New London was built in 1921 at 39 (29-41) Bank Street on the site of a earlier theater called Aborn Hall. A vaudeville and movie theater (legend has it that George Burns and Gracie Allen met here), it has been closed since 1974 and is in need of restoration.

New London had a lot of beautiful features that they destroyed over the years, the Capital theatre was a special place for me growing up, the Fun House and the old train station was another, it’s a shame that they have destroy the way you can drive around the monument that was in front of the train station, also the cab stand that was there, the Mohegan hotel was another one what a shame how they change street name at will like main street was Eugene O’Neill Dr, Huntington was another also stole my schools name from New London Jr high to Benny dover Jackson middle school which the kids nick named bend over Jackson middle school the progress they think made was destroying people’s memories of a beautiful time in a better way of life
