Capt. John Johnson

The community of Middle Haddam in the Town of East Hampton, like neighboring Haddam Neck, was once a shipbuilding center. Captain John Johnson, who had been a privateer, began a sail loft on his property at Knowles Landing, employing four women to sew the sails. His house, in the colonial cape style, was built around 1795 and has been much altered over the years.
