The first ecclesiastical society of Plainville began in 1840, when the congregation split off from the church in Farmington to become the Second Congregational Church of Farmington. Plainville was incorporated as a seperate town in 1869. The current Gothic Revival style Congregational Church of Plainville was built in 1850 and was designed by the New Haven architect Henry Austin.

This image is absolutely remarkable. It is nice to see some of the old churches still out there. I love the angle, and how the sunlight hits the building. I can already hear the congregation singing the old songs of the faith during service. Keep up the great work! God bless.

My grandmother was a member of this congregation for decades. It was always a treat to attend services with her because the church felt like a church – lofty ceiling, an organ with beautiful pipes and wooden pews. I also remember the music – they had bell ringers and a chorus. Thanks for this photo..I hadn’t thought about this church in a long time.
