The Connecticut State Office Building, adjacent to the Bushnell theater in Hartford, was built in 1931. It was designed by Smith & Bassette, a firm also involved in the 1929 Hartford County Courthouse. The huge Office Building, constructed of Indiana limestone, has flat classical detailing influenced by the Art Deco style.

1931 is the date given for the building in Structures & Styles: Guided Tours of Hartford Architecture (1988) by Gregory Andrews and David Ransom. The Connecticut State Office Building is building B19 on p. 38.

Sometimes there are discrepancies in exact dates if a building was, for instance, begun in one year and finished the next, or completed in one year and only officially occupied in the following year.

I have a 36 page paper booklet titled, “State of Connecticut. Laying of the Corner-Stone of the New State Office Building at Hartford, September 25, 1930”. It was the very detailed program for that days event.
