239 Bradley St., New Haven

The William W. White House is an Italianate-style residence with a cupola, built in 1853 at 239 Bradley Street in New Haven. It has a later Colonial Revival front entry and an uncomplementary side addition.

I walk past this house every day. I’ve always thought it was an odd Greek Revival/Italianate transitional building. I bet, though, it was originally stuccoed and everything painted to look like stone. It would’ve worked far better as an Italianate that way. Colonial revival messed up a lot of cool Italianates in the 20s-50s
